Krazy Larry’s Hot Rod Haven is a new business by name only; this 40′ x 75′ metal building was an addition to Jim’s Citgo Full Service Station located on Hwy 171 N in Gillis, Louisiana. This full service station was operated by Larry DeFries’ mom and pop for many years. It served as Larry’s first job upon returning home from Vietnam. It was a resting place for Larry, then and is still a haven for him now, by affording him the opportunity to escape into his own little world of dreams and visions. Larry, has and still, rescues as many “old” steel vehicles as possible. As the saying goes, “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure”. Larry has collected so called “junk” for years which has provided treasures for many auto enthusiasts as well as himself.
Larry’s enthusiasm for old auto restoration came to a screeching halt in 2005 when one of his twin boys, Brandon, was killed in an automobile accident (hit and run). Larry locked the doors to the shop and walked away from this haven for eight long years. Finally, in the year 2013, he unlocked the front door and began dusting the dirt off his old dreams and his vision grew bigger birthing Krazy Larry’s HRH.
Krazy Larry’s HRH is a regular gathering place for friends and strangers alike. If you are ever in the area stop in and take a peek at all the on-going projects. There are plenty of vehicles here to take you back in time and numerous road trip stories to amuse you! The only guarantee you have is that you will be treated with great southern hospitality!
